Official Guidance Issued to Children and Youth on Secure School Traversal Routes by Police - Children and teenagers are conveyed to school in a secure manner by the police

Next week, approximately 18,947 first-graders will embark on their educational journey in Saxony-Anhalt. In a bid to ensure a safe school route for these youngest schoolchildren during the 2025/26 school year, the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of the Interior, led by Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU), has announced an initiative called the "Safe School Route."

The focus of this initiative is to pay special attention to road safety for the upcoming school year. The police in Saxony-Anhalt will be intensifying targeted prevention work, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic rules and driving with consideration. They will also be sensitizing all road users to be cautious, particularly around schools.

Details about the specific measures and strategies that will be implemented as part of the "Safe School Route" action are not yet available. However, based on general practices in Germany, we can expect to see measures such as supervised walking groups, traffic education for children, visible police presence during school commute times, and cooperation with local schools and parents.

To better protect first-graders during road traffic, the initiative will include checks near schools. Parents are encouraged to practice the school route with their children before the school start to familiarise them with the route and help them learn how to estimate speeds and distances while crossing streets.

This year, a total of around 213,800 students will be attending school in Saxony-Anhalt. The exact number of students for the first grade was not provided in the announcement.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of the Interior in Magdeburg, though no new information about the city where the announcement was made was provided.

For the most accurate and detailed information, we recommend consulting official communications from the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of the Interior or the regional police department websites directly.

The Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of the Interior has announced a community policy named "Safe School Route" to ensure the safety of first-graders during their education-and-self-development journey next week. This policy includes vocational training for police officers to enhance traffic rules adherence and consideration, as well as sensitization of all road users around schools. Additionally, there will be checks near schools, and parents are encouraged to engage in vocational training with their children to familiarize them with safe school routes and road safety.
