Chi-Chi's Makes a Comeback After 18 Years with New Menu and Modern Vibe
Chi-Chi's, the beloved Tex-Mex restaurant chain that closed its doors in 2004, is making a comeback. Michael McDermott, son of the co-founder, is leading the charge after securing the brand name from Hormel Foods. The first restaurant is set to open in St. Louis Park, Minnesota on Monday.
The new Chi-Chi's will feature modern decor and a prominent bar area stocked with over 100 tequilas. Prices for main dishes will range from $15 to $24. Fans of the original chain can look forward to classic favorites like chimichangas and deep-fried ice cream, along with new additions such as quesabirria tacos.
The reopening comes amidst a challenging market for full-service Mexican chains, with two other chains filing for bankruptcy this year. However, McDermott plans to open two locations in Minnesota this year and then franchise the concept. This trend of reviving extinct restaurant brands also includes Steak & Ale, Ground Round, and Hot 'N Now.
The first Chi-Chi's restaurant in over a decade will open its doors in St. Louis Park, Minnesota on Monday. With a mix of classic favorites and new dishes, and a modern atmosphere, the new Chi-Chi's aims to recapture the hearts of fans while navigating a challenging market.
