California Colleges & Google Team Up for Free AI Tool Access to 2M Students
California Community Colleges and Google have joined forces to provide free access to Gemini, Google's latest generative AI tool, to over 2 million students, faculty, and staff. This partnership aligns with California's Vision 2030, aiming to boost student success and workforce readiness. Google has committed to offering a range of AI training programs, including Google Career Certificates, AI Essentials, and Prompting Essentials, to enhance practical job skills. This is the largest higher education deal of its kind in the US, focusing on preparing students for the AI-driven economy. The partnership, which surpasses Code.org's $10 million investment from Zoom Cares and Google.org, will ensure data protections for all users. It also includes free access to Gemini, Google's new AI tool, further enriching the learning experience. Meanwhile, the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026 are set to recognize excellence in global education technology. Entries are open to organizations worldwide, with winners to be announced on 14 January 2026 and featured at BETT 2026. Through this partnership, California Community Colleges and Google are empowering students and staff with cutting-edge AI tools and training. This initiative not only supports California's Vision 2030 but also sets a global standard for integrating AI in education and workforce development.
