Breakfast Meeting in Greifswald to Explore East German Women's Experiences

On October 25th, a breakfast meeting for women will take place in Greifswald. It will feature a lecture on 'Meaningful Friendships' and a choir performance. This event, organized by the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft e. V., aims to highlight the experiences of East German women during the transition period.

The breakfast meeting is one of several events organized by the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft e. V. to mark the 35th anniversary of German reunification. On October 6th, a discussion with eyewitnesses from both East and West Germany will occur at 4:30 PM. This event, like others, seeks to exchange knowledge and experiences to better understand the political processes of the time.

Prof. Dr. Madeleine Tolani, President of the Citizens' Assembly, notes that the transition period brought profound changes for many women. She highlights the importance of such events in understanding these changes. Currently, an exhibition titled 'Women in Divided Germany' is on display at the Fallada House and STRAZE, further exploring this theme.

The Citizens' Assembly, which was established during the reunification process, has seen significant turnover. Only two original members remain active since its first session. Nearly a quarter of the current members were born after 1990, bringing fresh perspectives to the assembly.

The upcoming breakfast meeting and other events in Greifswald offer opportunities to learn about the experiences of East German women during the transition period. These events, organized by the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft e. V., aim to foster understanding and exchange of experiences. The East Women's Salon, set to take place on November 6th and 7th, will further enrich this dialogue.
