Boosting Agritech Network in Northern Ghana Granted EU Support by Dedicated Farmer
The EU-supported AgriFI initiative has invested €2.2 million ($2.5 million) in the Ghanaian agritech startup Complete Farmer, marking a significant step towards enhancing agricultural value chains and promoting rural development in Ghana.
The funding, managed by EDFI Management Company, will be used to construct six rural fulfillment centres across five northern regions in Ghana. These centres will provide essential services such as aggregation, quality assurance, and logistics, benefiting over 5,000 smallholder farmers initially, with an ambitious goal of reaching 50,000 farmers by 2028.
Complete Farmer operates a digital platform offering two key services: CF Grower and CF Buyer. CF Grower provides smallholder farmers with data-driven farming guidelines and access to input suppliers, while CF Buyer connects global commodity buyers to traceable, export-quality produce.
The investment aligns with the AgriFI Ghana Country Window's goal of promoting inclusive rural development. By strengthening infrastructure in underserved areas, farmers will have better access to quality inputs, expert agronomic guidance, and reliable market connections. This is expected to lead to increased crop yields and improved incomes for smallholder farmers.
Complete Farmer distinguishes itself from typical agritech ventures through a hybrid approach that integrates digital innovation with physical infrastructure. The company is building essential logistics hubs to close critical gaps in storage, quality assurance, and post-harvest handling.
The EU Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, stated that the investment extends beyond a single startup, uplifting entire farming communities. This investment positions Complete Farmer to drive large-scale agricultural transformation in Ghana, not just for the benefit of the startup, but for the entire rural economy.
The investment in Complete Farmer is a strategic approach to use agritech innovation to build resilient agricultural value chains and foster inclusive rural development in Ghana. It complements Complete Farmer's previous funding and lays the groundwork for more targeted rural expansion.
