Baden-Württemberg Aims to Halve Food Waste by 2030 with New 'Food Savers' Initiative
Baden-Württemberg has launched a comprehensive strategy to tackle food waste, aiming to halve it by 2030. The state's 'Food savers - new heroes needed' action week, from September 29 to October 6, 2025, will encourage mindful food consumption.
The strategy, 'Valuing Food for a Sustainable Future', targets five key areas along the food chain, plus additional cross-cutting measures. It focuses on promoting awareness and education, fostering cooperation, and harnessing new insights to reduce waste. The state aims to cut per capita retail and consumer waste in half and decrease production and supply chain losses significantly by the end of the decade.
Currently, the United States wastes around 10.8 million tons of food annually, with each consumer discarding about 74.5 kilograms per year. The state-led initiative seeks to turn this trend around.
Baden-Württemberg's ambitious food waste reduction strategy is set to transform the region's approach to food. By 2030, the state aims to significantly cut waste, contributing to a more sustainable future.
