Australia's International Education Sector Booms, Set to Exceed 2025 Targets

Australia's international education sector is thriving. The latest report shows the country is on track to meet and even exceed the Government's indicative levels for new overseas student commencements (NOSCs) in 2025. Both public universities and other higher education providers are projected to surpass their targets.

Public universities are performing exceptionally well, with 28 institutions reaching 80% of their allocated NOSCs. The sector as a whole is projected to reach 109% of its allocation, with other providers expected to surpass their target by 72%. This growth is remarkable, considering the current system slows visa processing once a provider hits 80% of its allocation, effectively suppressing further growth but not entirely cutting off enrolments.

The vocational education and training (VET) sector is also expected to fill 90% of its allocated NOSCs. Overall, the international education sector is projected to reach 102% of the total NOSCs allocated for 2025. The Department of Education provides this report weekly, keeping stakeholders informed about the sector's progress.

The report indicates a robust and expanding international education sector in Australia. Despite the current system's growth suppression at 80% allocation, providers are thriving. The Government's indicative levels for NOSCs in 2025 are set to be met or exceeded, demonstrating the sector's resilience and appeal to international students.
