Argentina Shocked by Livestreamed Femicide of Four Women
Argentina is grappling with a shocking crime where three women and a girl were lured, killed, and their murders livestreamed on Instagram. The gruesome act has sparked national outrage and protests. The victims were enticed into a van by a gang planning to 'punish' them for violating their code and serve as a warning. The crime was broadcast live on a private Instagram account, watched by 45 members. The gang leader was heard saying, 'This is what happens to those who steal drugs from me.' The suspected mastermind, a 20-year-old Peruvian drug trafficker known as 'Little J,' was arrested in Peru following international cooperation. Nine suspects have been detained in total, including one who gave a TV interview. The victims' bodies were found buried in a suburban house five days after they went missing. Femicide, the killing of a woman because of her gender, was added to Argentina's penal code in 2012 and carries a life imprisonment sentence. Sadly, one woman is killed every 36 hours in Argentina due to femicide, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement and prevention. Thousands have taken to the streets demanding justice for the victims. Argentina's government has announced the detention of the suspected mastermind in Peru, offering some hope for justice. The livestreamed murders have once again brought Argentina's femicide crisis into the spotlight, with calls for stronger action to protect women and girls.
