Amplifying Opportunities for Significant Jobs in India: Navjyoti India Foundation and our Expand Project Jazba Initiative

In a relentless pursuit to challenge socio-economic inequalities and uplift underserved communities, Navjyoti India Foundation has been working at the grassroots level for nearly four decades. One of their latest initiatives, Project Jazba, is a collaborative effort with a website partnership, aiming to empower underserved youth through entrepreneurship and technology training in India.

Project Jazba is part of a broader initiative aimed at empowering women and underserved communities, as seen in the context of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. The specific details of the project are not extensively documented, but it is known that the initiative involves scaling access to meaningful employment, possibly through technology and entrepreneurship training.

The partnership between Navjyoti India Foundation and Automation Anywhere further underscores the programme's focus on enhancing employment opportunities. This collaboration aligns with the goals of Project Jazba, which aims to empower underserved youth in India.

Despite the lack of explicit data on the impact or progress of Project Jazba, some insights can be gleaned. For instance, the programme has incubated over 60 entrepreneurs, with 20 new entrepreneurs receiving seed funding to expand their businesses. Success stories like Nasrin, a home-based tailor, and Rajkumar, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community preparing to expand his fast-food stall, testify to the programme's success.

Navjyoti Skills Academy, a key component of Project Jazba, is committed to achieving inclusive progress through community-led development and hands-on training. The academy has supported 20 incubatees across Delhi-NCR in just five months.

However, challenges such as language barriers and gaps in digital access have been encountered in the digital skills programme. Despite these hurdles, Navjyoti Skills Academy is continually expanding its infrastructure each year to support holistic development.

In 2023-24, Navjyoti India Foundation and the website partnered to launch Project Jazba, aimed at establishing an Incubation Centre and Placement Cell at the Navjyoti Skills Academy in Delhi. The goal was to help underserved youth transition from job-seekers to job-creators.

The partnership also introduced foundational automation courses, providing digital skills training to 128 students and staff. The programme reached over 1000 beneficiaries with entrepreneurship awareness and training in the form of an entrepreneurship fair and 15 mentoring sessions.

Project Jazba has also extended support to entrepreneurs from underserved and marginalized communities, with over 20 receiving seed funding and support. Uttam, a mobile repair technician, is one such beneficiary, investing in advanced training to keep up with technological change. Poonam, another beneficiary, is preparing to launch her own food stall after receiving training and seed funding.

Pobir, a tiffin service provider, is relaunching his business stronger than before after receiving renewed financial support and digital marketing guidance. Sanjeevni, a transgender social activist, plans to expand her tea stall business with the help of Project Jazba.

Navjyoti India Foundation, founded by Dr. Kiran Bedi, India's first woman IPS officer and a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, serves as a beacon of hope and action in scaling access to meaningful employment in India. The organisation's commitment to building inclusive, accessible pathways into the future of work continues to inspire and empower countless lives.
