Allocating EUR 15 Million for Upgrading Municipal Infrastructure

Baden-Württemberg, a region in southwest Germany, has announced a funding program aimed at modernizing and expanding local innovation infrastructure. The program, which is part of the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE), will provide a total of €15 million for the initiative.

The funding call focuses on the modernization and expansion of innovations, start-up, and technology centers, as well as transfer centers. The aim is to improve conditions in all regions of the state to generate economic growth and ensure the competitiveness of companies.

Cities and municipalities in Baden-Württemberg that are part of the EFRE can apply for the funding. The program aligns with the Innovation Strategy Baden-Württemberg and supports the focus areas of future technologies and competencies, as well as resource and climate protection.

Possible investments include intelligent technologies, such as the use of artificial intelligence or smart building solutions, as well as modern technical equipment to support future-oriented working and research environments. The infrastructures should be able to expand their spatial and technical possibilities, also for experimental application environments.

Applications for funding can be submitted from September 15, 2025, until December 19, 2025. The program supports the acquisition of future-oriented, local infrastructure components and the optimization and improvement of existing infrastructures.

The infrastructures should concentrate on cooperation, networking, and knowledge transfer among companies. The aim is to create a conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering the growth of new businesses and the development of cutting-edge technologies.

For more information, interested parties can contact the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, and Tourism's Press Office and Citizen Liaison Officer via their email or contact form, which are available online. The Ministry of Food, Rural Areas, and Consumer Protection is also strengthening regional innovation systems through the expansion and modernization of communal innovation infrastructure.

This funding call is a significant step towards Baden-Württemberg's goal of becoming a hub for innovation and technological advancement in Europe. With the support of the European Union, which is providing approximately €279 million for the funding period 2021 to 2027, the region is well-positioned to drive growth and competitiveness in the digital age.
