Academy of Indian Learners Promotes Student Governance with Elections

Boost Your Civic Awareness with the Thrill of Democracy at ILOA

Get ready for a dose of real-world politics right in the heart of Indian Learners' Own Academy (ILOA)! Their Annual Student Democratic Club Elections have turned the school grounds into a hotbed of democratic spirit and responsible citizenship. These elections are more than just a school event—they're a hands-on lesson in democracy, civic engagement, and digital literacy!

Every year, students from Grades 6 to 12 get to cast their votes using an electronic voting system, just like in national and global elections. This simulation is designed to acquaint students with the process and procedures of a democratic setup, promoting a fantastic opportunity for them to understand the core pillars of any progressive society—civic engagement and electoral literacy.

The nomination process kicks off a month prior, as ambitious students from different grades throw their hats in the ring for a total of twelve leadership positions. These coveted roles include the President, Head Boy/Head Girl, Vice Head Boy/Vice Head Girl, Sports Captain Boy/Girl, and other key posts that make up the Student Cabinet.

The up-and-coming politicians are carefully evaluated and selected by the Vice Principals based on a mix of academic achievements, co-curricular involvement, personal attributes, and demonstrated leadership potential. Once chosen, the hopeful leaders are given the chance to campaign across the campus, showcasing their manifestos, sharing their visions, and convincing their fellow students of their worthiness.

Amidst posters, stirring speeches, and interactive sessions, the school atmosphere crackles with anticipation and political energy! On the day of the elections, students from every corner of the campus proudly come forward to cast their votes using the modern electronic voting machines. By employing this cutting-edge technology, ILOA prepares students for the future of digital democracy, ensuring they become well-informed and technologically proficient citizens.

The final tally of votes determines the list of dedicated and deserving student leaders who will represent their peers during the 2025-2026 academic year. This marks the beginning of their journey—to lead, represent, and contribute positively to the student community at ILOA.

This educational exercise is more than just a school event; it equips students with the practical knowledge of how democracy works. They learn essential democratic values such as fairness, transparency, responsibility, and the power of an informed choice.

Through these democratic exercises, ILOA affirms its commitment to nurturing future leaders—individuals who recognize the importance of civic participation and are well-prepared to uphold the principles of democracy.

Kudos to all the elected leaders, and a heartfelt thank you to the staff, coordinators, and fellow students who helped make this event a resounding success. The spirit of democracy lives vibrantly at ILOA!
